Chapter 1: About the Author

Before visiting the park, here’s a brief history on Rawlings. She moved to Florida in 1928, in what’s now called the Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings House, where the natural, rural land enchanted her. This landscape, along with the people inhabiting the area, inspired many themes found in her most popular books like The Yearling and Cross Creek. Although her stories are fictional, they’re based off some of her own experiences living in rural Floria. See also drew from the lives of the locals that surrounded her.

Chapter 2: The Guided Tour

On the tour, your guide, dressed in period costume, will show you three main sites: the barn, the farmyard, and the Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings House. Throughout, you’ll gain inside knowledge about her farm-lifestyle in the 1930s. Your guide will also point out exactly what inspired her to write these literary masterpieces within the beautifully preserved home.

Chapter 3: Take Your Own Exploration

If find yourself becoming inspired by the land, take a stroll down two hiking trails on the property. One used to serve as an access point to reach the Rawlings’ personal orange grove. Or, if you’re looking for more nearby nature, there are plenty of other sites to explore.
