5 of the Best Things to Do in High Springs, Florida

1. Go Swimming at Poe Springs Park

One of our favorite things to do in High Springs, Florida, is to cool off on a hot summer day at Poe Springs Park. The park is located along the banks of the Santa Fe River and is home to miles of walking trails, sports fields, a picnic area, volleyball courts, BBQ grills, and of course, Poe Springs. These natural springs are always clear and cool, and we love taking a dip on a hot day! The areas around the shore are shallow and perfect for children, but the spring itself can be as deep as 25 feet.

2. Try Scuba DivingatGinnie Springs

Like Poe Springs, Ginnie Springs is another natural spring located off of the Santa Fe River. These springs are some of the clearest in the country and have even been called the “world’s favorite freshwater dive.” Certified scuba divers may rent gear and explore the breathtaking caverns under the surface. If you’re not certified, you are more than welcome to tube on top, swim, and snorkel. You’ll fall in love with the crystal-clear waters that stay at 72 degrees year-round!

3. Hike at O’Leno State Park

kayakingIf you’re looking to get some hiking in during your stay at Sweetwater Branch Inn, you’ll love O’Leno State Park! O’Leno is one of Florida’s first state parks located right next to the Santa Fe River, so you will have gorgeous water views during your hike. During your travels, you’ll get to see sinkholes, towering trees, swamps, and sandhills! There’s nothing better than breathing in the fresh air as you appreciate the beauty of nature all around you. Other activities you can enjoy at this park include mountain bikingkayaking, canoeing, and more!

4. Learn at the High Springs Museum

If you consider yourself a history buff, you’ll love the High Springs Museum! In the 1800s, High Springs was a core part of the Plant System Rail Yard and Roundhouse. Today, you can learn all about how it influenced the town when you visit the museum built in its honor. You’ll get to see Native American artifacts, items from the original general store, railroad memorabilia, and more!

5. Explore Downtown High Springs

After spending time reconnecting with Mother Nature, relax and explore downtown High Springs. This charming, historic town is located 20 minutes north of Gainesville and features plenty of tasty eateries, breweries, boutiques, and fun-filled activities—like mini-golf!
