Celebrate Autumn at the Micanopy Fall Festival

When you visit Gainesville, FL, you will find historic homes, outdoor adventure opportunities, and moss-laden oak trees. The downtown area has great energy from its hustle and bustle, but as you move away from the central hub you get peace and quiet. Sweetwater Branch Inn is just minutes away from downtown, yet away from it all. The towns surrounding Gainesville are even quieter. Just 12 miles away from Gainesville, the town of Micanopy is home to less than a thousand people. However, every November, over 10,000 people flock to the small town for the Micanopy Fall Festival. Locals and visitors gather to celebrate the fall season with art, music, food, and an auction every year.

Eat Your Heart Out at the Micanopy Fall Festival

Make sure to go to the Micanopy Fall Festival with an empty stomach! Think of your favorite food, and it will probably be there. There are over 250 vendors at the festival split between craft booths and food booths. You’ll find typical fair food like burgers and hot dogs, and even steak, shrimp, and barbecue! For dessert, enjoy specialties like homemade ice cream and apple dumplings. Make sure you stop by a booth run by the local churches for some delicious homemade pie. Let the sweet aromas of kettle corn and funnel cake guide you through the venue!

Entertainment for All Ages

Throughout the weekend, you will be able to hear the lively sounds of musicians performing on the main stage. This soundtrack to the festival is a crowd favorite. Listen to the music while you browse the craft booths, or grab a bag of boiled peanuts and relax in front of the main stage. Another highlight of the festival is the old-fashioned auction that usually takes place Saturday afternoon. Vendors donate goods to raise money for approximately 15 local non-profit organizations, including historical associations, churches, and student groups, that split the event’s proceeds.

Bring Home Some Florida Memorabilia

There are over 250 food and craft booths that line the length of Cholokka Boulevard on both days of the Micanopy Fall Festival. So many vendors apply each year that the committee has to turn people away! Artisans and crafters display their goods for fairgoers to browse through. Everything that is sold has to be handmade, so you’ll always get a truly unique piece! In the past, vendors have sold items like purses made from repurposed cowboy boots, hand-hammered metal art, and organic soaps. There are also craft booths like fall-themed pumpkin decorating for the kids. If you want to get the best shopping, arrive early. Some people get to the festival at 8:00 to make sure they have the first pick of the goods!
