About the McKenzie House

This magnificent three-story 1895 Queen Anne style Victorian home is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. Know as one of the most elaborate Victorian structures in Gainesville’s history, the McKenzie House has intricate Eastlake details and a fanciful restored massing. Of special note are the three-story octagonal turrets on the west face and the wrap-around veranda which culminates in an octagonal gazebo. Beautifully restored inside and out, this home has unique fireplaces, parlors and detailed woodwork throughout.

The house is surrounded by the fabulous McKenzie Gardens, which include a beautiful bridge, a pond and a gazebo. The McKenzie Gardens are dotted with blooming flowers, statues and fountains and are the site of most of Sweetwater Branch Inn’s wedding ceremonies.

A short walk through the courtyard and over a beautiful bridge will take you to the McKenzie Hall. Its 2,300 square foot central room, with its many glass doors, opens to a large patio surrounded by lush Florida gardens. Elegantly designed with high, exposed truss ceilings, Victorian light fixtures, and crisp white paint, McKenzie Hall is perfect for any special occasion. With a full kitchen facility, serving room, and spacious restrooms, the McKenzie Hall is perfect for receptions of up to 200 guests for hors d’oeuvres or a light buffet and 175 guests for a sit-down dinner.

Catering is available.

From Our Guests

I had the pleasure of staying at the Sweetwater Branch Inn for 2 night this past summer. The cottage was very spacious with ample room to throw a small party. It has a well appointed eat-in kitchen, a Jacuzzi on the porch, and a super comfy bed. The gardens were gorgeous and the food was delicious! I had a wonderful time chatting with the innkeepers too. It is located in a lovely area with lots of period homes.

My wife, daughter and I spent an afternoon and evening at Sweetwater and we really enjoyed Lilly’s cottage. There was lots of room to stretch out and cool off. There was a nice whirlpool spa on the back porch…Fun stuff around Sweetwater Branch Inn.

This is one of THE BEST PLACES we have ever stayed in. Victoria’s Cottage is a very special “home”. Has everything you could want or need. Great front porch to sit on a rocking chair and enjoy the surroundings. Beautiful gardens, great food, but most of all, the staff. Nicest group of people we have ever met. You made our 20th anniversary very memorable. THANK YOU ALL.
